Peer Teaching
The aim of this peer teaching workshop was to introduce peers to the creative possibilities of three various ceramic surface design processes. For this peer learning, student teachers were asked to reflect on their sense of being such as cultural heritage, identifying photographs, shape and patterns referential to their own personal meanings to explore surface impressions in clay. They explore water etching using wax resist and connecting it to its possibilities with visual studies, clay lithography using stains and gum arabic transfer techniques and finally stencilling/slip application using easy to make basic screens for printing/stencilling. By the end of the workshop, they gained practical skills in incorporating new surface design skills to clay that focus on colour, line, shape, pattern and texture and can be readily applied with previous learning regarding handbuilding.
