    Tonnta Beag

Tonnta Beag is a continuation of the ideas explored in Tonnta Criostalaithe, distilling its themes into a more intimate, contemplative scale. Inspired by the ephemeral beauty of Killiney’s coastal shingle bay, Tonnta Beag echoes the rhythms of the sea and the shifting threshold between self and environment. Though reduced in scale, the work holds the same meditative presence—inviting quiet reflection on transience, repetition, and change.

Informed by the Confucian principle of self-cultivation—the continuous refinement of mind and spirit through intentional effort—Tonnta Beag becomes a vessel for exploring personal growth within the natural world’s impermanence. The ceramic forms, shaped by hand and smoke-fired to embrace unpredictability, embody a pursuit of balance between control and surrender, perfection and process.

Tonnta Beag reflects a search for serenity within motion, offering a more subtle but equally potent expression of the desire for harmony between inner life and external landscape.
